Why should any physical or informational process feel like anything at all?
A calculator can compute numbers without suffering. A thermostat can regulate temperature without loneliness. Why does a human brain — or any sufficiently complex informational structure — feel pain, joy, anticipation, or beauty?
If the underlying evolution is deterministic and the mathematical description appears causally closed, qualia seem like epiphenomenal ghosts: real but causally irrelevant.
Within the Full Informational Framework, qualia are not mysterious additions inserted into a completed mathematical universe. They arise at a more primitive layer: the interpretive-heuristic layer that operates before any particular mathematical slice emerges.

Logical reasoning and explicit symbolic thought form the complementary logical axis. This tool becomes available for fine-grained optimization. Humans are particularly strong in this domain. Intelligence, logical reasoning confers significant compressibility advantages in complex environments.
Both axes — phenomenological (qualia) and logical — are internal to the observer. They are what it feels like to be a highly probable, compressible Alice successfully self-locating within the measure landscape.
Systems that feel joy and insight are more likely to move toward stable, compressible configurations. In short, feeling compresses better.
We know there is pain. We know the universe obeys crisp mathematical laws. There is not many attributes to bitstrings to play with. The framework shows that consciousness and qualia have vast room to operate in the interpretive layer.
We are experiencing the compression and selection process from the inside. Qualia are not an extra ingredient — they are what it feels like to be a highly probable Alice.
